Men's Hmong Stripe

"Hmoob Txaij" Men's and Boy's outfits.

I find myself in situations where I'm asked to make Hmong clothes for friends or family members. I suppose it's because some outfits are hard to come by, or that they are just too pricey in the market. In any case, I'm always hesitant because I'm not a professional and don't want to "mess up" an outfit that is meant to last forever.

I accepted the challenge of making four complete sets of "traditional" Hmong Stripe outfits, ranging from toddler to boys to mens. Each set includes a top and bottom made from black floral brocade fabric, with the distinctive stripe feature on the armband. It's finished with three button loops at the front opening. All flat sketches, patterns, and construction are done by me.

I spent a long time on this project... WAY more than expected. However, I'm really proud of myself for taking the time to research and understand the Hmong Stripe outfits, as well as paying close attention to the fabric and construction quality of each garment. That is something I value as a maker, and I believe it is essential to consider when making Hmong Clothes.
